Situated in Hengyang, a historical and cultural city in Hunan, China, University of South China (hereafter referred to as the University or USC) is a comprehensive public university which was merged in 2000 by Hengyang Medical College, founded in 1958, and Central South Institute of Technology, founded in 1959.

One of the so-called yiben, or first-tier, universities on the Mainland China, the University offers 74 Bachelor programs, 170 Master programs and 18 doctorate programs to students from all over the world. It also offers two special training programs --“Outstanding Engineers” and “Outstanding Doctors” -- financed by the Ministry of Education.

With academic research and education covering 9 disciplines, namely, engineering, medicine, management, sciences, economics, philosophy, law, literature and art, USC has long been enjoying a nationwide reputation for its medical and nuclear sciences and environment-oriented disciplines, and has nurtured thousands of talents and professionals in these fields as well as others.

Actively involved in global interactions since its foundation, the University has established official cooperative relations with many universities in the world, and initiated dozens of coop programs with its partners.

Hengyang, home to USC, is a beautiful medium-sized city in China, and enjoys a very convenient transportation, being a 40-minute bullet train trip from Changsha, the capital of Hunan province, a 120-minute bullet train trip from Guangzhou, the international metropolis in the south of China. Daily non-stop flights to Beijing and Shanghai are now available.
